Welcome to Spring League


Spring League is the main field hockey season for our junior players and runs April-June.  Girls and Boys from Kindergarten to Grade 12 can join Spring League. New players in all age groups are welcome! We look forward to another great season with new faces, skills learned and lots of fun!

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Girls/Boys U6-U10 – November 1, 2023 to February 28, 2024

Girls U11-U18 – November 1, 2023 to January 31, 2024

Boys U11-U18 – November 1, 2023 to February 15, 2024

Registration will remain open after these dates as long as space on teams is available. If we are full you will be waitlisted. Payment will not be processed until we have confirmed we can place you onto a team.

 

Please consider registering early to assist us in determining where the demands are in each age group. 


During Spring League, we offer these complementary activities for players wishing for more field time, more skill development or more competition:

  • Free “New to Field Hockey” skills session led by our club coaches on November 27, 6-7pm , January 29, 6-7pm or April 2, 5-6 or 6-7pm at Rutledge Field Sign up when you register for Spring League.
  • Free Weekly skills sessions for players in Grade 5-9 throughout Spring League: Tuesdays 6-7pm.   
  • Free Goalie Clinics for players Grade 5-9 - these will run Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. 6-7pm and 7-8pm. Details will be sent at the start of Spring League
  • Guest appearances and coaching from Men's National Team and Women's National Team players.
  • High Performance Program for the athlete wishing for more intense training and development.

                                    

 

U6 PROGRAM (KINDERGARTEN)

The U6 program aims to introduce basic skills of field hockey whilst having fun. Small groups allow players to have many opportunities to touch the ball. The focus at this age is on fun, movement, safety and introduction to team sports. 

Dates: April 15 - June 10 (No session May 20 holiday Monday).
Location: William Griffin Turf, North Vancouver
Practice: Mondays - Girls play 5-6pm or 6-7pm. Boys play 6-7pm
Games: Mini games will be part of the Monday sessions.
Teams: No formal teams are created, although players will be grouped in numbers of approximately 10 players.
Uniform: A t-shirt and socks will be provided that you can keep. Please wear black shorts.
Registration period: November 1, 2023 to February 28, 2024
Cost: $135 + $23 (FHBC fees) = $158

ADDITIONAL PROGRAM FEATURES

  • Lead Coaches will be on-field throughout the Spring League season to provide extra guidance and coaching to teams.
  • Free “New to Field Hockey” skills session led by our club coaches on November 27, 6-7pm , January 29, 6-7pm or April 2, 5-6 or 6-7pm at Rutledge FieldSign up when you register for Spring League.

                               

 

U7-U8 PROGRAM (Grade 1-2)

The U7/U8 program aims to help your child develop athletic movement skills and learn field hockey-specific skills whilst having fun.  The small group format allows players many opportunities to touch the ball.  The focus at this age is on fun, movement, safety, and introduction to team sports.
 
Dates: April 12 - June 14 (No session on May 17)
Location: Rutledge or Ambleside E
Practice: Fridays - 5-8pm, your one hour time slot will be allocated closer to the program start.
Games: Mini-games will be part of the Friday sessions.  There will also be a Jamboree and a Fun Night.
Teams: Approximately  10-14 players.
Uniform: A t-shirt and socks will be provided that you can keep. Please wear black shorts.
Registration period:  November 1, 2023 to February 28, 2024 (Registration will remain open after these dates as long as space on teams is available)
Cost: $150 + $23 (FHBC fees) = $173

ADDITIONAL PROGRAM FEATURES

U9-U10 PROGRAM (Grade 3-4)

In the U9/U10 program, players continue to develop their field hockey skills. Game play is 5 v 5 on a small field to encourage many touches of the ball for all players.  There are no goalies, and we encourage lots of scoring!  The focus at this level is on fun, movement, skill development, and safety.    

Dates: Practices start on April 2 - end on June 20.  Games start April 6/7  and end June 15/16. (No league games May 20 long weekend).
Location: Ambleside E, Confederation, Sutherland, William Griffin.
Practice: U9 and U10 practice time slots will be Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday. Coaches will select the practice night for their team.
Games: U9 Girls - Saturdays U10 girls - Sundays  
U10 Boys - Sundays (U10 Boys division includes Grade 3 and 4).  

Teams: Approximately 14 players. No goalies.
Uniform: A t-shirt and socks will be provided that you can keep. Please wear black shorts.
Registration period:  November 1, 2023 to February 28, 2024 (Registration will remain open after these dates as long as space on teams is available)
Cost: $210 + $23 (FHBC fees) = $233

U11-U12 PROGRAM (Grade 5-6)

The U11/U12 program aims to continue to develop field hockey skills and teamwork. Game play is 8 v 8 (7 players and a goalie) on a half-field, to encourage many touches of the ball for all players. The full rules of field hockey are introduced, including penalty corners and goalies.  Teams join the Greater Vancouver Junior Field Hockey League (GVJFHL) and will play teams from other clubs. 

Dates: Practices start on April 2 - end on June 20.  Games start April 6/7  and end June 15/16. (No league games May 20 long weekend).
Practice: One practice per week either Tuesday/Wednesday/ Thursday;  Coaches will select the practice night for their team.
Practices are on a turf field in North or West Vancouver.
Games: U11 and U12 girls - Saturdays
U12 boys - Saturdays (U12 boys division includes Grade 5 and 6).  
Home games are on the North Shore; away games may be played in other municipalities.
Teams: Approximately 14 players.
Uniform: We provide a jersey (& skirt for girls) which you return at the end of the season and socks which you keep.
Registration period:  November 1, 2023 to January 31, 2024 (February 15 for boys). (Registration will remain open after these dates as long as space on teams is available).
Cost:  $220 + $23 (FHBC fees) = $243

U13 PROGRAM (Grade 7)

From U13 players move from half field, to 11-a-side full field, full rules field hockey, while continuing to develop and consolidate their field hockey skills. 

As the players move to full field the team size will increase, with teams merging and realigning. At this age group players will be asked to provide additional information relating to their desired level of play, to help the Age Group Coordinator and coaches with the new team formations. This information will be collected during the registration process. 

 Teams play in the Greater Vancouver Junior Field Hockey League (GVJFHL) with teams from other clubs. 

Dates: Practices start on April 2 - end on June 20.  Games start April 6/7  and end June 15/16. (No league games May 20 long weekend).
Practice: One practice per week (Monday-Friday). Day/time/location is selected by the team staff. North Vancouver or West Vancouver Turf fields.
Games: Girls U13 - Sundays.  
Home games are on the North Shore; away games may be played in other municipalities.
Teams: Approximately 16-18 players.
UniformWe provide a jersey (& skirt for girls) which you return at the end of the season and socks which you keep.
