Our Pitch Pals program provides one-on-one support in the form of a junior coach. Our Junior coaches are teen players who also provide field hockey knowledge and assist our spring league coaches. They will engage and support individual players who may be anxious or who have communication and or social issues, so they can be safe on the field.
Note: this program is designed for players who can usually function in a group setting with other children but who may need a bit more support to be able to participate fully.
When I raised my concerns about our son having some communication and social struggles the Club offered to have one of the Junior coaches help him. What a difference that made!! Our son absolutely LOVED going to field hockey!
Not only did he develop his hockey skills, but he has also developed socially and it has helped him make more friends. And if you ask any parent who has a child with ASD - that is a HUGE deal.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Without the coach buddy - I am not sure our son would have been able to successfully participate.
