U15-U16 Program (Grade 9 and 10)

U15-U16 teams play 11-a-side full field, full rules field hockey, while continuing to develop and consolidate their field hockey skills.  Teams at this level play in the Greater Vancouver Junior Field Hockey League (GVJFHL) with teams from other clubs.

Dates: 30 March - 21 June. (No league games on Easter Weekend or May Long Weekend)
Practice: One practice per week (Monday-Friday). Day/time/location is selected by the team staff. North Vancouver or West Vancouver Turf fields.
Games: In January 2020, the GVJFHL adjusted the days of game play for U15 and U16 Girls teams:
U15 girls - Saturdays.   U16 girls - Sundays.
U16 boys - Saturdays (U16 boys division includes Grade 9 and 10) 
Home games are on the North Shore; away games may be played in other municipalities. 
Teams: Approximately 16-18 players with a goalie. 

Uniform: We provide a jersey (& skirt for girls) which you return at the end of the season and socks which you keep. 
Registration period: 1 November 2019 to 31 January 2020 (15 February for boys) 
(Registration will remain open after these dates as long as space on teams is available) 

Cost: $215

ADDITIONAL PROGRAM FEATURES

Players can also participate in these FREE coaching sessions led by our club coaches:

  • Free “New to Field Hockey” skills sessions led by our club coaches on 31 March and 7 April. Sign up here.
     
  • Weekly skills sessions for players in Grade 5-9 throughout Spring League:
    Tuesdays from 6-7pm at Rutledge from 14 April - 16 June . No need to sign up, just turn up!
     
  • Goalie clinics for players age Grade 5+ interested in trying and perfecting their goalie skills.  
    Monday to Thursdays (starting 31 March) from 6-7pm and from 7-8pm on the practice pad at Rutledge. 
    Beginner goalies should come to the 6-7pm session.
    No need to sign up, just turn up - but don't forget to bring your team's goalie gear!
     
  • Guest appearances and coaching from Men's National Team and Women's National Team players.

Looking to play more field hockey?  Players in Grade 9 and 10  can also participate in our High Performance Development program which is designed to add additional skills development and a competitive element to Spring League.

Athlete Development Stage: Train to Train

We ensure that all activities are appropriate for our players' age and stage of development. This program is tailored to the Train to Train stage of Long-Term Athlete Development:

  • Building an aerobic base and developing speed and strength
  • Futher developing and consolidating field hockey skills
  • Focusing on continuous improvement, playing fair and sportsmanship
